This plant is a hybrid between the Primrose and the Cowslip. The flowers are quite similar to those of the Cowslip but are larger at 15-20mm across and are of a paler yellow, more like the Primrose colouring. The umbel of flowers is not one-sided (as in the Cowslip), and the leaves are more like those of the Primrose, tapering and crinkly. This hybrid is quite commonly found in the Burren where both of its parents grow together in the fields and hedgerows and blooms in May and June. It is a native plant and belongs to the family Primulaceae
I first identified this plant in the Burren in 1984 where I took the photographs.
