Field Bindweed could sometimes be confused with:

Bindweed, Hedge subsp. roseata, Bindweed, Sea,

Also known commonly as Small Bindweed, Common Bindweed or just plain Bindweed, this creeping, twining perennial bears pretty pink, occasionally white, flowers from June to September.  Usually solitary but occasionally in pairs, these delicately scented, trumpet-shaped flowers (2-3cm) have white lines from the borders of the fused petals to the yellow centres to guide in pollinating insects.  The leaves are arrow-shaped and long-stalked.  This fast-growing plant is found on roadsides, grassland, railway tracks and is seen as an aggressive garden weed which is extremely difficult to eradicate.  It is a native plant belonging to the family Convolvulaceae.

I first recorded this plant in 1978 in Newcastle, Co Wicklow and photographed it not far from that location in Killoughter, Co Wicklow.
