Very similar to Potentilla erecta, this little perennial has slightly larger, bright yellow flowers (14-18mm across), with 4 or 5 petals, at least 20 carpels, longer stems which root at leaf junctions (see photo), a basal rosette which persists, and short-stalked upper leaves. It flowers from June to September on banks, roadsides and woodland, not so commonly found as Potentilla erecta. It is a native plant and it belongs to the family Rosaceae.
My first record of this wildflower was at Cullenstown, Co Wexford in 2006 when I also photographed it.
