Lus Cholm Cille – Colmcille's plant – is a hairless, evergreen damp-loving little plant with solitary bright yellow star-shaped little flowers, each 5-petalled with long, pointed sepals below. It is a very delicate little plant with shiny heart shaped leaves along the creeping stem. The flowers bloom from May to August and Yellow Pimpernel favours shady places, woodland and damp mountain pastures. It is a native plant and belongs to the family Primulaceae.
I found this plant on Deenish Island off Derrynane, Co Kerry in 1978 and photographed it in Kilmeaden, Co Waterford in 2005.
