Fen Nettle could sometimes be confused with:

Nettle, Common,

Fen Nettle is very similar to Common Nettle but the flower clusters begin at a higher point on the stem than those of Common Nettle. The leaves are opposite, long-stalked, coarsely toothed but are different to those of Common Nettle in being long, narrow and pointed. The fine, dense hairs on this nettle are usually non-stinging.  It grows to 120cm high and is found on damp neutral soil such as fens and riverbanks but not on waste ground or on disturbed habitats. It is a rare introduced perennial and is only found in the South East. It belongs to the Nettle family.

I first recorded and photographed this plant at Johnstown Castle, Co Wexford in 2012.
