Three-nerved Sandwort is not easily confused with other wild plants on this web site.


Straggling annual which grows to 40cm. Small white flowers, 5-6mm across with 5 undivided petals, on long stalks; sepals, which have white margins are longer than petals. The leaves are ovate and slightly downy, with 3-5 distinctive veins on each leaf; the stems are hairy all round. A native plant, it grows in undisturbed woodlands & on rich soils. It is frequently found except for Connacht. It belongs to the Pink family.

I first recorded this little plant in 2011 in Inistioge, Co Kilkenny
