This is a perennial plant which grows to one metre tall, mostly in coastal habitats but also in marshes, damp meadows, and fens. It has slender, almost solid, ridged stems which small white flowers in terminal, slender-rayed umbels (2 – 6 cm), between six and fifteen flower-heads radiating in each umbel. They flower from June to September. The sparse, thin leaves are bi-pinnate, the upper leaves narrower than the lower. This is a native plant and it belongs to the Apiaceae family.
I first recorded and photographed this plant in 2010 at Saltmills, Co Wexford and am most grateful to Paul Green, BSBI Vice-county Recorder for Counties Waterford and Wexford, for his confirmation of my identification.
